Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business, Dream Legacy Foundation (DLF) and the Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) is a critical national network of research hubs involved in community-based research, with a mission to improve the lived experiences of the Black community. Through collaboration with a network of multidisciplinary researchers and in linking these with community-based researchers and practitioners and by adopting a regional communitybased strategy, the BEKH will co-create and co-generate research that will deliver important knowledge, insights, and outcomes that resonates with the local regional needs of Black entrepreneurs, community members and organizations across Canada.
Position Overview
To accomplish this important mission, the BEKH seeks applications for the position of Project Coordinator (Research). The position will be based at Carleton University, while the successful candidate will work closely with the Community Stakeholders, Dream Legacy Foundation (DLF), the BEKH Directors, Regional Hub leads, and the Sprott School of Business, Innovation Hub staff, to ensure that the BEKH fulfills its national mandate and objectives and its commitment to Black entrepreneurs, community members and organizations across Canada.
The BEKH is seeking a Project Coordinator (Research) who will coordinate research and contribute to the broader BEKH project management activities. The successful candidate will have very strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for project coordination of research and research data management.
Key Accountabilities
Tasks:
Project coordination of research activities and reporting with academic and community researchers
Provide legal team with data for contract drafting including deliverables, timelines, etc.
Support the calls for research proposals and work closely with the Principal Investigator and Research Advisory Committee regarding the adjudication of research proposals
Drafting supporting documents
Communicating with respondents of the calls for proposals
Collecting, organizing, and completing reporting on the status of research activities.
Reviewing invoices and receipts to ensure they are ready for payment
Writing and editing materials for publication and presentation
Contribute to project management tasks including payroll, milestone management, quarterly and annual reporting, etc.
Assist with coordination of symposiums and conferences
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail and produce consistently high-quality and trustworthy work
Knowledge of research in an academic, governmental, and/or community organization context
Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across public, private, not-forprofit, community service providers, advocacy groups and academic institutions
Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills
Experienced with office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
Knowledge of the lived experiences of Black entrepreneurs, community members, and organizations
Adherence to Carleton’s human rights policies and procedures

High self-motivated individual with initiative, who can work both independently and collaboratively, and take on a variety of tasks as a member of a small team

Ability to work with a variety of academic, community, and practitioner partners to develop relationships and achieve BEKH goals
Experience with computer applications to build knowledge translation products and resources (i.e., infographics, slide decks, and/or video stories) is required
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Project Management, Communications, and/or commensurate experience preferred
Commensurate experience in Research related projects or a Master’s Degree is an asset
Strong oral and written French language skills are an asset
Experience
One year experience in project coordination/management and research
Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written), and organizational skills are required, along with creative problem-solving abilities
Physical, Visual, Auditory, and Concentration Demands
Uses keyboards, mice, computers/tablets, and other technology devices
Heightened auditory demands for taking minutes during meetings
Requires coordinating and organizing face-to-face and virtual meetings to engage the members
Concentration and visual effort during composing, drafting, editing, and proofreading documents including cross-checks of information and data accuracy
Concentration and visual effort during updating, revising, and adjusting calendars and schedules
Responds to interruptions to workflow that impact concentration demands
Working Environment
Expectation of working in an in-person office environment at least 3 days per week (on-site at Carleton University)
Ongoing requirements for computer-based work and attendance at meetings
Attends events and meetings outside of regular work hours
Limited travel may be required
